Before you start

• GlueKits don't include glue. A PVA or wood glue with a fine nozzle is ideal, and a small amount goes a long way. Superglue works for metal or plastic accessories but can mark wood.
• BatteriesKits don't include batteries. Have them ready before you fit the LED light, and if you're not sure which type your kit takes, ask us.
• ToolsTweezers, a small craft knife, a cutting mat and a ruler cover almost everything. Good light makes a bigger difference than any tool.
• SpaceLay the wooden sheets out flat and leave the parts on the sheet until the step that needs them. It's the easiest way to keep track.

Stuck on a step?

1. Look two steps aheadSome sub-assemblies only make sense once you see where they attach.
2. Check sheet letters and part numbersSimilar-looking panels often differ by a single notch, so match the number printed on the sheet to the manual.
3. Dry-fit firstSlot the parts together without glue to check they're the right way round, then glue.
4. Fit the LED earlyTest the light and route the wire before closing up the walls. It's much harder to add afterwards.
5. Flatten bowed sheetsThin wood can warp slightly in transit. A few hours under a heavy book flattens it.

Missing or damaged manual

Every kit includes an illustrated step-by-step manual. If yours is missing, damaged or unreadable, ask through the contact form with your order number and kit name and we'll send a digital copy, usually the same working day.

Care and display

• Dust with a soft, dry brush or a hairdryer on a cool, low setting. Never use a damp cloth on paper or fabric details.
• Keep your nook out of direct sunlight to stop the colours fading.
• Switch the LED off when you're not enjoying it. Cheap batteries can leak if they're left flat for months.
• Nooks look best between two full-height books at eye level, with the light on in the evening.
