What is byChapters™?
byChapters is a UK shop for DIY book nook and miniature house kits: laser-cut wooden worlds, lit by LED, that slot between the books on your shelf. We choose every kit from specialist makers and test-build it in England before we list it, and we help until yours is finished. Our own original designs are planned for 2027.
What is a book nook?
A small, lit scene about the size of a hardback that stands upright between the books on a shelf. Look in and you find a bookshop after closing, a gothic castle or a cottage garden, glowing from inside.
Are book nook kits hard to build?
They ask for patience, not skill. Made for adults and teens 14+. Beginner kits of 140 to 330 pieces take 2 to 4 hours; advanced kits with staircases and several floors take 8 or more. Every product page shows pieces, build time and difficulty.
What do I need to build one?
Batteries for the light, which aren't in the box. Many kits also need craft glue; each kit's specifications say whether it does and which tools are included. Everything else is in the box: pre-cut wooden sheets, printed papers, miniature furniture, the LED set and a full-colour manual.
How fast is delivery?
Order an in-stock kit before 3pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), and it leaves our UK warehouse the same day by Royal Mail Tracked 24, which aims to deliver the next day, Monday to Saturday (not guaranteed). Delivery is free on orders of £25 or more and £2.99 under £25. We also deliver right across Europe: standard tracked delivery in 3–7 working days from £6.95 (free on orders of £100 or more), and in Ireland and the EU, VAT and import duty are included in the price.
Which book nook should I start with?

Do book nooks make good gifts?
Yes. You’re giving hours of calm, screen-free making, then a lit piece that lives on their shelf for years. Christmas Shop for December, a library for the reader, European Melody for the musician — or start from our gift ideas.
What if a piece is missing or breaks?
Parts replaced free: if a piece is missing, faulty or damaged in delivery, or breaks during your first build, tell us with the replacement parts form and we’ll post a replacement free, with nothing to return. Unopened kits can go back within 60 days.
