A warm window on a dark corner, and the last light still on behind the bar.

A corner bar under a deep wooden cornice, its arched windows glowing and double doors half open. Inside, a full-width counter: stemware hung upside down above rows of backlit bottles, brass jugs and a whisky board on the panelling. Outside, a cast-iron street lamp burns over a chalkboard, a barrel and two tall stools on the paving.

There are 327 parts, and most of the work is in the small stuff: glazing bars, the hanging glass rack, the bottle shelves and the fretwork cornice that runs the facade. Printed signboards and the pavement chalkboard go on near the end. Switch on, and warm light spills out through the glass while the street lamp answers it. Three to four hours.

For anyone who likes late-night city corners and warm windows: model makers, miniature collectors, anyone furnishing a home bar or study shelf. As a gift, it suits someone drawn to period shopfronts and a bit of craft.

How long does it take to build?

Most people finish it in 3–4 hours at an unhurried pace. We rate it beginner: a good first kit.

How big is it when finished?

About 23 × 15 × 15 cm (width × depth × height). It stands upright between the books on a shelf, like a hardback.

Does it light up, and are batteries included?

Yes: Warm-white LED street lamp + interior, touch switch. Batteries aren't included, so have some ready for the moment you finish.

What else do I need to build it?

Batteries for the LED light, which aren't in the box. You'll also need craft glue, which isn't in the box. In the box: tweezers and a frosted sanding rod, and the illustrated manual. A craft knife or fine sandpaper helps tidy edges.

Who is it suitable for?
