An aged forest-green facade, weathered like a shop that has traded longer than anyone remembers. A sign glows against the dark paintwork above the entrance, arched windows hint at the clutter within, and a swinging bell on the door announces the brave. Inside, the tools of the trade: potion bottles, a set of scales and a well-used spellbook.

The 168 pieces come pre-cut in wood, with paper, metal and faux-crystal accents supplying the fine detail, and the doors and windows are made to open rather than sit fixed. Build the shopfront, dress the interior shelf by shelf, then thread the warm LED set through. Five to six hours later, one touch of the switch lights the sign and the shop within.

For readers, gamers and anyone who lingers in the strange little shops of fiction. Slotted between fantasy paperbacks, its lit green front looks like a shop that quietly opened at the end of the row overnight.
